How can we help?

At Badger Ecology Wales we offer a range of services centred around your needs.

Badger Surveys

Badger Ecology Wales have overseen over 300 site surveys and can provide detailed, accurate land mapping for ecological studies, construction work or planning applications.

Planning applications and advice

We can offer expert guidance regarding all planning application needs, including badger licence requirements and time frames of work involved, in many different projects, from conservation to construction.

Sett closure and sett construction

We offer badger sett construction and full sett closures, where movement of badgers is required to achieve planning permission for construction, under licence, across Wales.  We have managed projects for housing associations, construction companies and architects, and can provide detailed advice and full guidance on request.

Badger Vaccination

We currently work with farms in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire to provide a vaccination program as part of a package of biosecurity measures, which can help to reduce the risk of Bovine TB spreading between badgers and cattle.

Bait-marking surveys and tracking studies
Bait marking surveys can be used to establish badger social group territories, which can be useful when surveying for planning purposes or providing farmers with biosecurity guidance. We offer a range of surveys to suit all needs.
Project Management

Badger Ecology Wales project managed the largest private sett survey in Wales covering over 280 farms, on 185 square kilometres of the Gower Peninsula. This work was successfully carried out on behalf of the Gower Vaccination Group LTD in 2017.

Badger Ecology Wales

Badger Ecology Wales offers a tailored service of badger vaccination to landowners such as farmers, conservation groups and private individuals wishing to reduce the spread of bovine TB on their land. We also offer artificial sett construction and sett closure and can give badger advice, surveys or mitigation plans on request. Our team includes a Veterinary Surgeon who has many years experience with disease management and an experienced Badger consultant, fully trained, insured and Lantra qualified.

Why Vaccinate Badgers?

It is common knowledge that the Eurasian Badger is a significant wildlife reservoir for Bovine TB (Mycobacterium bovis) in the UK. Vaccination of badgers against M.bovis has been proven to reduce the likelihood of a badger testing positive to bovine TB by up to 85%.
